The Project Magna Grecia Park
Magna Graecia originated in the 8th century B.C. during the Greek expansion westward, reaching the coasts of the Mediterranean and influencing regions like Puglia, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, and Sicily. Greek art, literature, and philosophy profoundly impacted the colonies, achieving levels of engineering and education equal to or surpassing Greece itself. Greek settlers established study centers that produced renowned mathematicians, philosophers, writers, doctors, and artists.
The civilization of Magna Graecia was home to legendary figures like Pythagoras, a mathematician, scientist, and philosopher; Alcmaeon, a pioneer of ancient medicine and scientific research; Milo, the greatest athlete of ancient history; and Archimedes, one of the most renowned scientists and mathematicians. These individuals, known for their incredible inventions, discoveries, and theories, laid the foundations for the BIRTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF MODERN WESTERN CULTURE.
Building on this legacy, the plan is to create a theme park in the province of Crotone called “Magna Grecia Park.” This large-scale park will feature unique elements designed to recreate the architectural and cultural splendor of that illustrious historical period, showcasing the achievements and contributions of Magna Graecia.
The park aims to attract significant flows of tourists and cultural visitors to the entire region by offering a journey through the history of the most famous cities of Greek Italy. It will highlight the lifestyle of that era and showcase the various knowledge and achievements of its notable figures.
Theme parks are considered one of the most significant attractions in contemporary society. They are important both economically and socially, offering users overwhelming physical and mental experiences. These parks transport visitors into magical and supernatural contexts, fictional and fantastical worlds separate from everyday life, where they can relax and have fun. Visitors enjoy the attractions, share their sense of well-being with others, and immerse themselves in unique, enjoyable experiences.
Magna Grecia Park is an atypical amusement park, innovative in its format and unique worldwide for its cultural characterization. Centered around the Magna Graecia theme, it offers visitors a journey into the past, immersing them in a world from 2500 years ago, rich with history, science, culture, and adventure.
The park recreates Greek-era scenarios specific to the analyzed territories and highlights the cultural figures of that period.
Visitors can explore the park through life-sized buildings: temples, theaters, stadiums, public buildings, schools, homes, artisan shops, farms, and animal husbandry setups. Some structures are ideal reconstructions, while others are based on credible historical and archaeological data. The goal is to recreate historical settings enriched with live shows and modern interactive technologies. The park includes a commercial village, aquapark, educational campus, exhibition center, hotel area, and facilities for energy, water, and waste management. This strategy integrates cultural tourism with accessible, self-sustaining hospitality.

The Project and its Areas
The Technologies
Magna Grecia Park spans 1,664,538 square meters
Is structured into 11 areas, divided into two macrocategories: 3 thematic areas (The Greek Polis on the Ionian Sea, the Village of Knowledge, and the Ancient Greek Olympics) and 8 non-thematic areas.
A main pedestrian street runs from west to east, while a surface metro line, connected to the S. Anna Airport in Crotone, divides it from north to south.
THE THEMATIC AREAS
Area 1: THE GREEK POLISES ON THE IONIAN SEA – The main thematic area features six Greek city-states (polis) along an artificial lake representing the Ionian Sea. Inside each polis’s walls, visitors will find historical-monumental buildings, artisan, and food production facilities. Outside the walls, there are agricultural zones, animal husbandry areas, service areas, and themed mechanical attractions. PHOTO AND VIDEO GALLERY
